1. First, you must be able to analyze large amounts of data. Some databases of hundreds of gigabytes and millions of rows of information.
2. Know how to use SQL, Oracle, Mysql, or any of the other large database engines.
3. Know how to use reporting software such as Crystal Reports.
4. Like most other jobs, you must have a keen sense of problem solving.
5. While not essential, it is helpful to know a programming language such as PHP or C++.
6. As a database analyst you must be able to articulate and present your findings coherently.
7. Know how to use spreadsheet software such and Microsoft Excel or Open Office.
8. Knowing how to research problems is a key factor in the success of many in the IT field and it is no different for a database analyst.
9.Be patient. You will no doubt have to encounter users on a daily basis and having the patience to deal with them will go a long way in your career.
10.Persistence, if you are applying and not getting called back for job interviews, perhaps you need to create your own success and start freelancing for charities in order to build up a portfolio.
