10 Steps to Becoming an SQL Database Analyst

The position of database analyst is also often referred to as business analyst. It encompasses a wide range of analytical skills.

1. First, you must be able to analyze large amounts of data. Some databases of hundreds of gigabytes and millions of rows of information.

2. Know how to use SQL, Oracle, Mysql, or any of the other large database engines.

3. Know how to use reporting software such as Crystal Reports.

4. Like most other jobs, you must have a keen sense of problem solving.

5. While not essential, it is helpful to know a programming language such as PHP or C++.

6. As a database analyst you must be able to articulate and present your findings coherently.

7. Know how to use spreadsheet software such and Microsoft Excel or Open Office.

8. Knowing how to research problems is a key factor in the success of many in the IT field and it is no different for a database analyst.

9.Be patient. You will no doubt have to encounter users on a daily basis and having the patience to deal with them will go a long way in your career.

10.Persistence, if you are applying and not getting called back for job interviews, perhaps you need to create your own success and start freelancing for charities in order to build up a portfolio.

The candidate will define, publish, maintain, and communicate release schedule across all markets in Asia Pacific & Africa Region in coordination with the vendor. He/She will also be responsible for defining the policies and procedures for the release management process and the source control system. Job Scopes

  • Manage and drive change & release for in-house software developed and maintained by an outsourcing company.
  • Drive the release planning process and come up with best practices for the organization.
  • Determine  the readiness of each release based on release criteria (quality of release, production environment readiness, training and support plans, rollout and black-out plans, and risk management plan).
  • Work closely with local operation team of each country in Asia Pacific region for planning, managing, and implementing releases from request to successful closure.
  • Work closely with develop and maintenance vendor to continuously improve the release processes, communication and delivery of fixed time projects in multiple locations.
  • Outstanding organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to drive issues to closure; Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must be a strong team player but able to work independently within a deadline driven environment.
  • Based in Singapore but willing to travel or relocate to other countries in Asia Pacific region.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor Degree or Equivalent
  • Min 2 years of Change and Release Management experience of systems deployed in multi-countries.
  • Min 2 years of experience in Finance  Services area
  • Experience in software development, solid understanding of full SDLC
  • Experience in managing multi countries to support parallel development and QA activities.
  • Min 2 years of experience in managing source control systems. This experience must include defining and implementing policies and procedures for check-ins, branching and other activities relate to the source control system and production deployments.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Visual  Source  Safe, and familiar with Team Foundation Server Source Control (TFVC) is a bonus.
  • Expert knowledge of source control system versioning and labelling.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Platforms and  Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
  • Experience with Multi-Tiered System Operations, including Web, Application and Database Operational Support & Services
